At the Jack Studio Theatre, their latest in-house production is Precious Little by Madeleine George and Grey Swan was once again invited in to take its rehearsal and production photography.
Kate Bannister, the accomplished Artistic Director at the Jack Studio Theatre in south-east London, has gathered together the same creative team responsible for the five-star and Off-West End productions of Kes and LIFEBOAT for her new production Precious Little – and we think she has another hit on her hands.
Madeleine George’s beautifully touching 2009 play tells the story of a woman expecting her first child. But when she has to make a choice in regards to her pregnancy, her search for the right decision brings her into contact with an elderly speaker of a vanishing language and a gorilla at the zoo.
“Whatever you do, something will happen. It’ll be a new life, and you’ll be inside it.”
Quite a challenging concept you might think but George’s play deftly uses humour to counterpoint the moments of drama and this results in a richly rewarding emotional experience thanks to Bannister’s production.
It was great for Grey Swan to be invited in once again to the Jack Studio Theatre to photograph the readthrough and also document the rehearsal process of Precious Little and a selection of those images are on display above. In addition, we came into the dress rehearsal and took the production photography and you can see a couple of those shots displayed below.
As the show is about to open – press night is tomorrow – we recommend booking a ticket asap so you can see the terrific cast of Jenny Delisle, Deborah Maclaren and Jessica Kinsey before the production sells out. You’ll be glad you did.
‘A crisp, fast-moving, tough-minded but often comic play about love, language, memory, culture and commitment.’
said the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette of the original production
